Monkey Bread

Forum member Bec has made this recently and I have included her photo here for you to drool over. Makes my tummy grumble just looking at it.

We love this recipe; easy if you have a breadmaker
Forget the croissants on Christmas morning ... monkey bread wins hands down!

Ingredients

1/2 cup milk
2 Tbs. water
1 large egg
1 Tbspn butter
1/2 tspn salt
2 1/4 cups bread flour
1 tspn bread improver
2 tspns caster sugar + 2 tspns extra for coating
1 1/2 tspns yeast
1/3 cup Nutella or similar spread
1/2 cup Icing sugar
2 tspns. cinnamon
3/4 cup butter
4 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 cup craisins (optional)

Directions

Add milk, water, egg,1 Tbspn butter, salt, flour, 2 tspns sugar, bread improver and yeast to bread machine. Select dough cycle. When cycle is complete, roll dough into 20 balls. Whilst dough is being churned, mix the Nutella and icing sugar into a stiff paste (add more or less spread or icing sugar if needed). Roll into 20 little balls.

Flatten each dough ball in the palm of your hand, and insert a nutella ball. Wrap the dough around the nutella and firm up evenly, sealing it well. Put extra sugar and cinnamon together in a ziplock plastic bag. Add all the bread dough balls and shake well. Arrange half of the balls in the bottom of a greased ring mold or bundt pan. Sprinkle with chopped hazelnuts, and craisins if you like them.

Repeat with the remaining dough, making a second layer, cover and let rise till doubled 35-45 min. Melt the remaining butter and brown sugar together and pour over the risen dough. Bake at 180C for 25-30 min. Cool 1 minute on rack, then invert onto a plate. Serve warm. Very special!

You can make an especially yummy savoury version, by putting a little tiny cube of cheese and 2 little tiny squares of bacon inside the dough balls. Omit one teaspoon of sugar in the dough. Omit the sugar and ziplock bag step. And just pour melted butter over...without the brown sugar. YUMBO!
